About Us

Sutter Buttes Gem & Mineral Society History

The Society was founded in 1990. It was the idea of Leonard Rocha, Jerry Filby and Dan Lutton to form a club for the education and enjoyment of those in the Yuba-Sutter area who were involved in the collection and study of rocks, minerals and fossils. They soon found others with similar interests and formed a non-profit organization which has been a member of the California Federation of Mineralogical Societies and is associated with the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies.

Meeting Information

The Sutter Buttes Gem & Mineral Society meets monthly on the fourth Thursday of every month at 7:30 pm, except for July, November, and December.

In July we hold our annual society picnic. We hold the November meeting on the first available Thursday after the annual show. In December, the club holds the annual Christmas Party instead of a meeting.

Visitors are always welcome.
